Hope for the Holidays – Adopt A Family Program

The holidays are a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate. No matter what holiday you celebrate, this time of year certainly has a magical feeling. For many families though the holidays can be an especially difficult and challenging time. Walk With Sally sees that with our families who have been impacted by cancer. Celebrating can be further complicated by spending long hours with a loved one in the hospital or the challenge of balancing endless medical bills with holiday shopping for a family.

What is Hope for the Holidays?

A few years ago, Walk With Sally (WWS) noticed a need for extra support surrounding the holiday season and started Hope for the Holidays. This program is designed to help our families who might need a little extra magic put back into their holidays. Walk With Sally finds companies, groups, families, or individuals who want to help out and shop for a family in need.

Each WWS family provides a wish-list of a few items that they need and each child gets to include a few ideas of fun gifts that they would enjoy. Families are given a wide range of things they are able to request and then the purchasing is left to the donor’s discretion. Each donor then wraps and delivers the gifts directly to the family.

Become a Donor – We Need You!

We are quickly approaching our 2020 holiday season and with the events of this year we need you now more than ever. Help us to provide gifts to our families who have been affected, not only by cancer, but by much more.

Lee Ann Poe, one of our recurring donors for the Hope for the Holiday program, said this about her experience, “Hope for the Holidays is my favorite Holiday tradition. Each year we receive a family’s wish-list and my family gets together to go shopping, not for ourselves, but for our adopted family. The best part about Walk With Sally’s adopt-a-family program is that we actually get to go and meet the family in their home. Each year our experience is different but every one unique in its own way. In 2018, we adopted a family with a 5-year-old boy. While we were there, I had given him an indoor snowball kit and together with his family we battled across the room with our snowballs. It’s a great tradition that I hope to continue every year. Thank you Walk With Sally for bonding my family with yours.”
