The impact of giving and receiving love through a mentoring relationship lasts a lifetime.
“I see my friendship with Dwayne as a gradual discovery of my greater purpose in life. I was a young guy when my mom was diagnosed with cancer. It was tough. I sure could have used a positive role model in my life during this difficult period. Most of the time, I was confused and I didn’t understand what was going on. As an adult, it feels good to give back and befriend someone that could sure use a “real friend.” Drew, a Banker.
“Drew is nice, he takes me to different places and he really cares about me. We play video games, baseball, football, eat, and hang out at the beach. We also talk on the phone every week. I’m not sad anymore. I feel happy when we’re together. It’s fun!” - Dwayne, age 11, student. |
